…I am trying to arouse your sincere intention by reminding you 2 that you should remember the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles.
(2 Peter 3:1-2)
I have listened to much moaning lately from the media, from politians, and from people in and outside of the church about that current state of our affairs. It seems everyone has an idea of what is wrong with us, but few people seem to have the ability to affect a resolution.
We are still at war, although we don’t see much of the war in our daily living unless we personally know someone in uniform. We may or may not be sliding into another economic recession (depending on who you listen to). We may be suffering with limited resources as a retiree, or we may be suffering with little or no employment. We may be feeling exhausted spiritually, physically, financially or intellectually and there doesn’t seem to be anyone helping us to be accountable as a society or individually.
We may be suffering real pain in our current situation, but I believe the prophets and teachers from our past have the best answers of anyone today. Many of them point us to the blueprints of living: The Holy Bible!
Why is it that, when all else fails us, we turn to God’s Word? If we are in want of joy, real joy and the ability to ENjoy life, the kind of life God intends for us then the Guide for living should not be our last, but rather our first resort! I learned this summer to put God first and everything else in my life fell into place. I learned this by studying with Christ my Savior.
Want to enjoy your family more intensely? Love God first. Would you like to have more security in life? Love God first. Would you like more answers for the questions you carry around? Love God first. And just how are we able to love life and God more intensely? First, grow your relationship with God by learning more about God.
Second, by serving the Master and becoming part of something bigger than ourselves, the emptiness in each us will be replaced with the infinite love God has always desired for us. It really isn’t a secret; God desires for you to be loved and to love. Our holy Parent has always wanted the best for us. Come and study the Holy Word of God with me and may God fill us both with joy, peace and love.
